APEC status

What is the RCNA APEC Program?
APEC is an RCNA model of endorsement for educational events and activities where the provider is given status or authorised, on behalf of RCNA, to endorse their own activities for a period of two years.  

What are the benefits of becoming an APEC member organisation?
APEC status:
  • is particularly beneficial and economical to organisations which run more than 2 educational activities per year
  • is more cost efficient than seeking individual activity endorsement.
The APEC endorsement process demonstrates, to the nursing profession, that:
  • a provider of a professional development activity or educational tool has undergone scrutiny by RCNA
  • an educational activity/event or tool meets the standards set by RCNA
  • an endorsed event will add value to a nurse’s continuing professional development.
What are the benefits to the APEC organisation representative?
APEC organisations can:
  • endorse their own educational activities/events on behalf of RCNA
  • allocate RCNA Continuing Nurse Education (CNE) points to all their activities during their two year APEC status
  • receive free advertising of their activities on RCNA's website
  • have full use of RCNA's logo on promotional material.
How does an organisation apply for APEC status?
To apply for APEC status, an organisation must pay a joining fee of $1760(inc gst) and nominate an individual or individuals to attend a full-day RCNA APEC workshop during which the endorsement process is outlined in detail. Workshops are conducted throughout the year at various major cities around Australia.

Following attendance at the full-day workshop, the organisation will then become an authorised provider of endorsed courses on behalf of RCNA for a period of two years. From the date of the workshop attendance, the organisational representative will become an endorser of educational activities for their organisation for a period of two years provided that representative continues to be employed by their organisation as their endorser of education activities or events. In order to maintain its APEC membership after two years, the organisation is required to pay a renewal fee of $1760 (inc gst).

Which workshop is right for you?
Once your organisation has nominated an APEC representative, they are required to enrol in an APEC workshop. You are invited to select the workshop location and date that is most convenient for your organisation. The cost of attending an APEC workshop is $330 (inc gst) per participant. A 10% discount applies where an organisation nominates 5 or more representatives to attend an APEC workshop.

Please note that APEC representatives must begin by attending a full-day APEC workshop, followed by a renewal course two years after the initial workshop. Participants cannot attend a renewal course if they have not completed a full-day workshop course first. The participant attending the renewal course must be the same participant who attended the initial workshop.

If your organisation wishes to endorse a new APEC representative, they must attend a full-day APEC workshop and may not just attend a renewal course in place of the original participant.
