International Nurses Day
On 12 May, the WA chapter together with staff and students from Edith Cowan University in Joondalup, celebrated International Nurses Day with "breakfast in bed" followed by fun and games on the Joondalup Campus.
May 12 is the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, who is widely considered to be the founder of modern nursing.
To mark the occasion, students and staff enjoyed breakfast - and then the games began. Nursing students competed against midwifery students in a tug-of-war, spin the bed (instead of spin the bottle) and syringe javelin plus IV throws and hoola hooping.
Professor Cobie Rudd, head of the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Post-Graduate Medicine along with Dr Joyce Hendricks, vice chair of the WA chapter also cut a celebratory cake which was enjoyed by all.
A wine and cheese event was held in the afternoon and attended by College members and staff alike.
Queensland members
As part of Queensland Nursing Council’s ongoing review process, the Guidelines on standards of practice for registered nurses with drug therapy protocol endorsement (the Guidelines) has now been completed.
DTP endorsement is necessary to meet requirements of the Health (Drugs and Poisons) Regulations 1996. The DTP endorsements were developed in consultation with nurses, nursing organisations, health service providers and other health professionals. The conditions of DTPs require consultation between an RN, pharmacist and a doctor on the development of HMPs. The pre-endorsement course is specific to the development of the knowledge and skills necessary to supply medications listed in a DTP.
Copies of the Guidelines can be downloaded from Council’s website www.qnc.qld.gov.au.
For further information please contact the Nursing Program on 3223 5110 or email nursing@qnc.qld.gov.au.
