Chapters
What's this?
A Chapter is a group of RCNA members identified by their geographical location. There are nine Chapters encompassing every state and territory in Australia. The purpose of the Chapters is to provide networking opportunities for RCNA members, and to encourage members to get the nurses in their state or territory involved in professional development activities.
How does it work?
Each Chapter is headed up by a Chapter Chair and a Chapter Committee who oversee the activities and meetings of that Chapter throughout the year. Chapters meet on a regular basis to plan professional networking opportunities or professional development activities in their local area. In 2008, for example, the ACT and Southern NSW Chapter ran an Acute Care Conference. This one-day event was held in Wagga Wagga and welcomed health professionals from around the region to come along and join in discussions and activities relating to the provision of acute care. Other Chapters have held workshops and seminars, inviting expert nurses and other health professionals to speak to Chapter members and their colleagues about their specialty area of health care.
Many of these Chapter-run activities attract CNE points and are an excellent way for RCNA members and their colleagues to stay on top of their professional development requirements.
Can I join?
When you join RCNA you will automatically be placed in the Chapter closest to where you live. RCNA encourages all members to be as active as possible in their local Chapter. Are you new to RCNA? Have you recently moved to a new state or territory? You can contact your Chapter Chair to find out what your peers are up to and how you can get involved. Just click the link to your Chapter on the left hand menu of this page and look in the Contact Us section on the right hand side of the page.
